Yuengling!

Being a well known brewer from the state of PA, Yuengling is also the oldest brewery within the U.S. around since 1829!  Being a bit of a Yuengling fan I have always enjoyed their lager and have always been very satisfied, as we can't get a hold of Yuengling in my home state.  However this was the first time that I was able to get a hold of the Yuengling Porter --- and it did not disappoint --- very smooth tasting porter, both on the front and back end of the beer.  Although I love the lager, I now have another craving in the Yuengling family and it is definitely the porter!!!! Got these two at the Khyber Pass

City Tavern!

City Tavern!  Well known location in Philly, was at one point the location of the unofficial Whitehouse when Philadelphia was the nation's capital.  Still standing today it is recognized in Philly as a historic location with great food and good beer.  Pictured here is the turkey pot pie, which is based on Martha Washington's recipe, the pie was very good with a light crisp crust and hearty filling, served with a side of noodles.  I paired the pot pie with the Jefferson Ale, which has the deep color of a good lager, but actually has a bit of stronger flavor than the typical lager.  The beers at city tavern are based upon recipes from some of the founding fathers, so be sure to sample more than one, however you don't want to drink here too long, as it is $7.75 a beer.

Third time's a charm!

Went to Nodding heads once again for a mid afternoon brew before heading down to City Tavern for supper.  This time I tried their Grog, a porter which has been the smoothest, tastiest beer as of date for me.  It has chocolate overtones, but not overbearing, with a crisp finish.

The Grog:

Manayunk Brewery

On our way back from Valley Forge, we stopped off at Manayunk Brewery.  We sampled their beers and tried their pizzas.  By the way, their personal pizzas are huge!  Do not make the mistake of getting an appetizer and think you can then eat the whole pizza-it could be done, but you'd be miserable.

Here are our first beers-the Yunkelweizen, which is a dark wheat, great flavor and didn't taste like a German wheat beer.  Very good.  The other beer was the Al Tercation, it was light, crisp and complimented the food well.
Carrie had the Schuylkill Punch, it had overtones of raspberry and was really good actually.
Our pizza came just as we ordered another round, here is my Provi-wit pizza that had shaved sirloin, onions, and cheese-very tasty!

The Eulogy

Down on 2nd Street, there is a pub that literally has the largest selection of beer I have ever seen.  Tell that to anyone in Philly, and they'll know immediately that you've been to the Eulogy.  They have a menu for their beer because there is over 100 beers (probably closer to 200) beers on the list.  The one above is the Nebraska Brown, which is pretty good.

We then ordered our food, and by that time another round was needed, so I ordered the Duck & Rabbit Stout.  It complimented the burger quite well.
Another beer would have been great, but we didn't want to fall asleep as we tour the Independence National Park!

Duval green & Monks sour ale! Duval is a wonderful thrist quenching lite beer!!
It is just really hard to beat Monk's sour ale, as it a very acquired taste, but very tasty!!

Monks!!:) Allagash white!! nice light wheat beer! sorry, but nothin but great at Monks!!

Good Dog bar!! this the sly fox lager, which is very smooth and finishes with a slight twang!
We had the roasted chicken and the duck pot pie!  Both were full great flavors, however somewhat limited on the roasted chicken's serving size for $16!  The duck pot pie was very good, served with a side of greens, however not the largest pot pie in Philly, however very good flavor.

Whoa! over 300 beers to chose from!
