Yeungling & Baseball
Who knew that Yeungling could get any better?! A Yeungling, some Crabfries with cheese and a Phillies baseball game, it was great.
Roosevelt's Pub
Last night we visited Roosevelt's Pub, located at 23rd & Walnut. It was a quiet evening while we were there, which was really what we were looking for. A nice corner bar, where you could have a beer, talk with friends, and not have to yell or be bumped by those around you. We were there during happy hour, so we tried a few different beers. We first tried Yard's Lager, it was very tasty and light. We then tried the Victory Stout-WOW! It was smooth, flavorful & very good. We then tried a Kisinger, it was also very good. We decided to move
We then went to Irish Pub, just up the street on Walnut on the corner of 20th. There we tried Yard's Stout, and it was tasty. We then tried Irish Pub's Stout with our food. I had the Fish & Cod that was served with coleslaw. Now I'm not a coleslaw fan, but this was actually pretty good. Pictured below is the Irish Stout:
My favorite of the night-Yard's Stout.

The Irish Pub!
The philly and the Irish pub stout at the Irish Pub on walnut! Cheesesteak was good, not the best, but definitely worth your money. Along with the sandwich I had the Irish pub stout (pictured) with very good aromas and very closely compared with a Guinness. A good solid stout, however it wasn't original, as it was like drinking Guinness.
Victory Stout!
Victory stout at Roosevelt's on 23rd and Walnut! Now of course this is not the only place to purchase Victory beer. However this is the first time I was able to have a Victory Stout! I will definitely have more in the future --- smooth!! A very good stout beer to my taste buds, as you have the smooth and sweetness at first followed up by a strong but not overpowering smokey flavor at the tail end. A+++
Return to Nodding Heads!
It didn't take long, but we made a return trip to Nodding Heads, so I tried a new one-Schilling 60, very tasty! We also stopped at the burger joint called 500, good burgers!

McGillin's
McGillin's Old Ale House is located at 1310 Drury Street in downtown Philly. You can easily miss the street if you're not paying attention as it is located on one of the smaller side streets, however, once on Drury, you can't miss the place:
Once again, we have located a casual, come as you are establishment that has really good food, I recommend the German sausage platter, and of course good beer. If you're looking for ales & lagers, this is the place for you! They have a good assortment of our lighter bodied brews, but for those of you how like the stouts, the Milk Stout & Oak Barrel Stout will keep you happy.
When we ordered these three pitchers of beer, she warned us that these were heavy beers and that the pitchers were the full 60 oz. glass pitchers. I guess she was just doing her job. Needless to say, after the three of us polished off our meal & those three pitchers, she realized we knew what we were doing!
McGillin's, another fine Philly establishment for eating, & of course, drinking!

1st Stop: Nodding Heads Brewery!
To begin our tour of Philly we started off at Nodding Heads Brewery located at 15th & Samson streets (only about 2 blocks from our hotel-Club Quarters of Philadelphia) in downtown Philly. It is a nice, laid back casual, come as you are brewery. Once upstairs, you'll understand the name of the brewery as you look at the literally hundreds of bobbing heads figurines.
The food was very tasty, Brent tried the French Dip-outstanding- & I, feeling adventurous, tried something new, their Muffaletta sandwich, a ham & turkey sandwich with provolone, onions, & olives-it was amazing. We started out our beer tasting with Brent trying the Ich Bin Ein Berliner weisse beer, & I tried the Zephyr amber beer. They were great. We then switched tastes with me trying the Monkey Knife Fight lager & Brent trying the 60 Schilling. Great food, great beer, great location, I'm afraid we're going to have to visit this place again.
Nodding Heads Brewery-if you're downtown, stop in and enjoy a great tasting beer
Monk's Cafe
If you don't know, you need too!! Monk's cafe down on 16th street in Philly is very well known for great food and great beer! This evening it was just beer, no worries as there will be a return trip later this week for more beer and food!
One of the best beer's to try at Monk's in my opinion is Monk's Sour Ale! Can't go wrong and if you were expecting a very sour tasting beer, well then you need to drink more sour ales, as it is not what most people expect. Monk's sour ale has always been a big hit, but it is a very smooth beer that comes across with very sweet taste in the beginning and finishes with a slightly sour taste on the back end.
On the left is the 60 Schilling and on the right is the Monkey Knife Fight offered from the Nodding Head Brewery between 15th and 16th on Samson street!
Each beer was excellent, as Nodding Head offers a flavor of beer to suite almost any palette. They are home to several award winners and I would personal recommend both the food and definitely the beer.
Summer 2011
As very excited visitors to Philly, we wanted to share our somewhat knowledge and opinion on food and more importantly the beer from just a few wonderful places that Philly has to offer!!
We will discuss some food, but definitely BEER!! Which Philly has plenty of both to offer and also outstanding!
